Apple Braised Turkey Thighs

I know that some of you may just be cooking for for two this Thanksgiving and that many of you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in your part of the world, so I wanted to leave you with a post that’s a great recipe for any time. I’ve heard a lot of discussion this year about cooking turkeys in pieces rather than roasting one whole (to save time and stress) so this would be a great way to cook the thighs. If you’re running around looking for last minute recipes or crafts to do before tomorrow, check out the Thanksgiving tab at the top of the page for some help. If you need some last minute decorating ideas, check out this post and if you just have a cooking question or need some tips you can always email me and I’ll do my best to respond! For those of you that are celebrating I wish you a blessed holiday, from my family to yours, and hope that you get to spend it with all of your loved ones! CLick here to get the recipe for the braised turkey and see how it’s made!

Fall Fabric Scrap Wreath

My favorite crafts are the ones that with a few color changes can be great for any season, like this one. For those of you who have been following me for a long time may remember a version of this wreath that I made for Valentine’s Day. It’s a foam wreath form that gets covered with “scraps” of fabric made by cutting squares using pinking shears. I’ve made them for all holidays but I think the fall themed ones are my favorite because they look like the changing leaves! I won’t bore you with a repeat tutorial (just see the old post for step-by-step instructions) but I will leave you with a couple tips I’ve picked up from making them. Paint the back of your wreath form with an acrylic paint, that way it has a finished look even if no one will see the back. My original wreath is much more sparse in fabric, I like them much fuller and colorful (I use 6 fabric quarters and that’s the perfect amount). For the fall themed one, which would be a great Thanksgiving decoration or a perfect hostess gift, use the colors of changing leaves for your inspiration (greens, browns, yellows, burgundies and oranges) and play around with different prints! If you don’t have the time to make one or you’re just not crafty, I believe there are still a couple that I made available for purchase in my Etsy Shop!

Roasted Brussel’s Sprouts with Bacon

I can’t believe that it is November already… fall is really flying by! I can’t wait for the upcoming holiday season, last year was so hectic that I feel like I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I should have so I’m looking forward to being a little more prepared for it this year. Every Thanksgiving either my parents or my grandmother host a big dinner for the whole family and then I make a separate dinner the following weekend for my husband and I, which we have dubbed “Thanksgiving 2.0″. I took tons of pictures from all of the meals last year and I can’t wait to start sharing them with you so that maybe you’ll be inspired to make some of them for your family this year! I’ve added a Thanksgiving tab to the menu at the top of the homepage and that’s where you can find a compilation of all the recipes, crafts, etc for that holiday. I’m also going to start including a printable version of the recipes at the end of each post (just click on the picture to pull up a regular sized picture and then print right in your browser in any size you like). I thought I’d start my Thanksgiving themed posts with a simple recipe, a side dish, that would be fantastic to make in the meantime if you want to practice! Brussel’s sprouts get sautéed in bacon fat and and then roasted in the oven and topped with toasted walnut pieces giving you the perfect combination of flavors. The bonus of this side dish is that it just gets thrown in with the turkey for the last bit of cooking time so you don’t have to worry about juggling oven space and temperatures!  CLick here to get the recipe and see how it’s made!

Thanksgiving Turkey, Stuffing & Gravy

First off, I just want to apologize for the poor quality and the lack of the pictures in this post. I wanted to do a post on a turkey and stuffing in time for Thanksgiving but obviously haven’t made mine for this year, so I had to use mine from last year. I only took a few photos and they were taken on my blackberry’s camera so they’re not great but it’s all I have! This turkey is so easy to make and is great if you’re making a Thanksgiving turkey for the first time! You infuse olive oil with lemon and rosemary, and then brush the turkey with it giving the turkey a really crisp and flavorful skin. The stuffing is a walnut and sage dressing and is absolutely delicious and the gravy uses white wine to give it extra flavor. So put aside all the fears of making a turkey for such an important holiday and get cooking because this recipe is not only easy , it tastes great! After the holiday I will post this years dinner with many more pics and tips! Click here to get the recipes and see how it was all made!

Wishbone Napkin Rings

I’m always looking for cool and unique ways to set our table for different occasions, all the way down to how I set up my napkins which is why i love this craft so much. I’ve heard of people taking necklace charms and tying them around napkins and I love the idea. I saw this Jennifer Meyer wishbone necklace on the Barneys website and thought it would be PERFECT for a Thanksgiving place setting… but let’s face it – no one in their right mind would pay 1,200$ for a napkin ring, so I improvised. I had roasted a chicken this past weekend (will do a post on that after Thanksgiving) and set the wishbone aside for this craft. Click here to see how it was made!

Classic Apple Pie

Our farmer’s market has been filled with wall to wall apples the last couple of weeks, so I decided to make a pie over the weekend. It was a dreary last couple of days so it was nice to fill the house with the nice warm smell of cinnamon and apples. I make these pies a lot of different ways but this is my favorite recipe, just a very simple and classic old-fashioned apple pie. The only down-fall of this recipe is that you really do have to wait for it to completely cool and set before you can cut into it… it’s the longest 3 hours of your life! I like to serve it with my homemade cinnamon ice cream, and it’s also a great dessert idea for Thanksgiving.
