Instalife 5:171. We have a queen bed in my office, as it serves as our guest room as well (you can see the room HERE, though it’s changed quite a bit since then). While I’m working all day, Weezy tucks herself in the bed and watches me the whole time. If I get up to grab something, she’s hot on my heels then right back to the bed when I sit back down… it’s too cute.

2. After seeing Gatsby last week, I couldn’t wait to start adding some 1920′s flair to my office decor. I went to our library and spent the whole afternoon checking out all the Cecil Beaton books I could get my hands on and some Art Deco books as well. The library itself is downtown (where there’s a lot of art deco buildings) so I love just wandering around. I also check out the Mark Twain room which is really cool too.

3. We made a nice dinner Friday night and of course I had to drink my champagne out of our vintage French coups!

4. Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, the fairgrounds right near our house holds “The World’s Largest Yard Sale” and there are hundred of different sellers with all kinds of different items. It seemed like a much larger turnout this weekend than we’d seen in the past and after seeing this sign when we entered we figured it much be drawing a larger audience!

Instalife 5:17 2

1. I was hoping to score some really cool pieces at the yard sale to display in my office along with the portraits from the Cecil Beaton books I’m going to get printed. I still can’t believe the amazing things we got (and how ridiculously little we paid for them). We got a 1960′s glass champagne bucket in a silver frame, which I polished up (see how to HERE) and it looks great! My husband finally found a shop that sells Nat Sherman cigars (find them HERE, the Rockafellar is his favorite) so he was looking for a vintage lighter and found this one. I was so excited about this silver tea set… I drink tea almost every night and have been looking for a modern teapot but actually love this one. The next picture in the set was by far the best find of the day… it’s a hand purse made in France from the 1920s and it is SPECTACULAR! Last but not least we found these art deco earrings and pin that came from a woman’s grandmother’s jewelry collection from the 30s.

2. Kristen Wiig was one of my favorites on SNL so I was so excited that she was back to host last weekend!! I can’t believe Bill Hader is leaving (no more Keith Morrison spoofs!!) and it appears Seth Meyers is set to take Jimmy Fallon’s spot when he moves to the Late Show which means SNL instantly just got way less funny :(

3. Words can’t even express how happy I am to have our farmer’s market back open for the year! Earlier this week we went and got all of our potted herbs. Since we don’t have a good spot to grow them outdoors, I keep them in pots on the window sill in our kitchen which not only gets the best sun, it’s handy for when we need to use them!

4. My mom got her and I tickets to see Jersey Boys a couple months ago and we hadn’t really made a plan other than that. Her ladies golf league got cancelled in the morning on Tuesday so she was able to come up for the whole day. We went shopping for my niece (and us too, lol) at the Niagara Falls outlets (find them HERE) then went to dinner at a new restaurant called Cabaret (find it HERE) that was so good! The show was really great, I had gone with my grandmother a few years ago to see Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in concert but knew nothing about the back story so I really enjoyed it. It’s rare that my mom and I get a whole day just the two of us so I really enjoyed it!

Instalife 5:17 3

1. Our old microwave randomly started sparking when we used it so we had a new one put in earlier in the week. It’s so funny when you get older the things that excite you, like a new microwave lol.

2. I kid you not, this was how Sebastian napped for hours on Wednesday. He was so afraid that he’d fall asleep and Weezy would steal his bone that he held it in his paw the entire time!

3. I have been so busy lately and doing my best to keep up with the posting schedule but on Wednesday I had just enough time to either get a run in or post a DIY and I choose the run. I felt like such a rebel (lol) because I never do that but I’ve been trying really hard to stick to my workouts and plus it was too nice a day not too. I seriously never tire of the view from our beach, it’s truly breathtaking!

4. I’ve been slowly and steadily adding items to my Summer Inspirations board on Pinterest (find it HERE) and in the next few weeks I’ll be loading it up. Summer’s always the time when we cook the most and craft the most so it’s great to have a board to pull inspiration from!

Instalife 5:10

1. Last Friday while I was cleaning I figured out a crazy easy way to polish the vintage silver trays we have all over the house (get the how-to HERE)… this is the one on our bedroom beside table

2. It finally was warm enough (and sunny enough) last weekend to resume beach weekends… we loaded up the cooler with fresh fruits which is perfect for snacks!

3. This was seriously how we spend every single hour of daylight both days last weekend….  on the beach, armed with stacks of magazines (me months worth of fashion mags, my husband with GQ, Esquire and Golf digest), coronas and the unbelievably gorgeous views. We swam, walked around the shoreline, read, listened to music (we got THIS tiny speaker that’s amazing!) and soaked up the sun. It totally recharged the both of us!

4. Have any of you tried Panera’s new iced Green Tea infusion? I am LOVING it! I also get THESE and drink over ice… love them too!

Instalife 5:10 2

1. I felt like a bad “mom” after leaving the dogs home all day last weekend while we were beaching it so when we went grocery shopping Sunday night I brought them home THESE. They love them and I was Seb’s best friend after that.

2. I mentioned in a previous Instalife post (find it HERE) that I was bringing back macrame bracelets and I wasn’t kidding. I finished a bunch and I stack them with spikes and different things, I love it!

3. I know it’s been a while since I’ve done a Designer DIY… truth is I had been so busy that I had stacks of fashion magazines from all the back to January that I hadn’t had a chance to go through! I got through a big chunk of them at the beach last weekend and found SO MUCH inspiration… I started working on a Jimmy Choo DIY that I will post on soon!

4. You guys loved my Pop Up Mother’s Day card from last year (get the DIY HERE), so I wanted to make sure I shared the cards I made this year too. I think this is the cutest card ever (get the DIY HERE)!

Instalife 5:10 31. I think I’ve mentioned a million times how obsessed I am with neons lately, I was so excited to see it popping up all over at Joann fabrics earlier this week. Speaking of Neons, I was approached to send in some picks of me wearing the “neon trend” for a UK site called Tag A Trend, check them out and see my photos HERE.

2. I took a break from working the other night to hang with Weezy for a little bit, with a face like that how could you ignore here? Lol

3. Okay, are you guys sick of hearing how in love I am with The Great Gatsby and how much I couldn’t wait to see the movie?! I finally got to see it at the premiere last night so I’ll stop talking about it (okay, we all know that’s a lie… we’re going to need some DIYs right?). I listened to the soundtrack earlier in the week before the movie and have to admit I didn’t love it but it is SO perfect in the movie!!

4. Last night we went to the premiere of the Great Gatsby and before I get in to my thoughts of the movie I need to just talk about these GoPicnic boxes because they’re life changing! They have them at the theaters now but I pick them up at our grocery store and keep one with me in case I’m out longer than planned and still want to eat healthy. This box is my fave but they have lots of different ones… I love that they’re packed with protein, all under 400 calories and don’t need to be refrigerated!

Okay, about the movie. I might be bias because I have loved this book for as long as I can remember. I love the whole 1920′s era and anything Art Deco, I loved the movie with Mia Farrow & Robert Redford and I was pretty sure there was nothing this new movie could do that would make me not like it. It was absolutely breathtaking… seriously, I found myself gaping at the screen several times over the parties, the food, the jewelry and 3D look in general. I literally squealed over the dresses and I giggled over how perfectly the music fit the scenes. The movie was extraordinary… it was stunning, funny, heartbreaking, over-the-top in the best kind of way and can I just say that Leonardo DiCaprio is seriously genius as Gatsby. I dreamt about the movie last night and woke up this morning thinking I cannot wait to see this movie MANY more times.

Instalife 5:3

1. We really never go out to dinner unless we’re away for the weekend or my parents come up so last Friday we thought it might be fun to switch things up a bit. We just went to the Cheesecake Factory and, as always, it was delicious!

2. On Saturday we hoped our Farmer’s Market might open a couple of days early so we headed over there only to be disappointed. On the upside, there is a restaurant supply store in the food terminal that’s full of amazing finds!

3. I had been enjoying our new outdoor table (see it HERE) all last week but last Saturday was the first time my husband got to use it too. We made a big dinner and ate outside Saturday night before joining up with our neighbors for some cocktails. I found this glass pitcher on one of my thrift store hunts and you can see I had my first blood orange pellegrino of the year too!

4. When we were at the store on Friday they had the big s’mores set-up in the front of the store so of course we couldn’t resist. We got rid of our fire pit (we’re going to get a new one as the old one just didn’t hold up after last season) so I made these inside using a brulee torch!

Instalife 5:3 2

1. I’ve rotated between two Louis Vuitton “speedy” bags forever but lately I hate the lugging it around and have been on the hunt for a great cross-body bag to use for the summer instead. I found the Rachel Roy one and fell in love… I love that it sort of looks like a briefcase/doctors bag but has the long strap too, I love the crocodile skin in the different colors and I love the vinyl on top flap… plus it has really cool screws on the handle!

2. Weezy being a cuddle-bug while we caught up on our DVR earlier in the week.

3. This is what most of my days look like now… if the weather permits (and it’s been PERFECT all week) I work outside on my MacBook.

4. My husband accepted a big promotion at work this week and I got him a few gifts to celebrate!

Instalife 5:3 3

1. I have always had better than perfect vision but as of late my eyes feel so tired at the end of the day that I knew I was straining them to see while staring at a computer screen all day. I REALLY didn’t want to get readers but I was about to find some cute Diane Von Furstenberg ones so I broke down and got them. Needless to say, I was right and these have helped a lot!

2. It has been way too nice to not be outside whenever possible so on Wednesday I suggested to my husband that we skip the gym and go for a longer run outside instead. The beach is our halfway point and I have to admit I was really jealous of all the people down there just relaxing!

3. I have been collected fabrics from Mood NYC (find them HERE) so that I’d have a good stash for making dresses this spring/summer. I finished one dress yesterday and am looking forward to breezing through the rest in the upcoming weeks.

4. Are you sick of me saying how nice it has been here this week? Lol we ate dinner out on the back patio again last night… this was basil salmon over farro and orzo with a glass of ice cold Sancerre.

Site & Shop Announcements

As my business continues to grow, I am always having a constant battle as to when and how to make changes in order to not only keep up but deliver the absolute best version of it. I have been going back-and-forth the last few months on the idea of giving this site a “facelift” to really simplify things and give it a fresh and easy-to-navigate look. The problem with that  always is that I will have to take the site offline for a period of time to make all the changes and it never seems like “the right time”. You may have also noticed that I haven’t added any new inventory to the Etsy shop in quite some time and there are a couple of reasons for that. The first is that I took on a lot (too many, lol) of side projects at the beginning of the year and they have taken up a lot of my “extra” time. The second is that I have been wanting to revamp the shop pretty much since I opened it. When I opened it, it really was just due to the demand for my headpieces and then I would add a few things here or there but it definitely needs a broader scope of inventory. We are going to be heading out of town for the long memorial day weekend, then taking a long trip to Miami for my brother-in-laws wedding and then I am making cupcakes for another wedding the following weekend so with all that coming up anyways, I knew now was the right time to make the big changes. After having lunch with my mom last week and bouncing ideas back and forth then sitting down to talk it all through with my husband, here is what I have decided to do as far as both the site and the shop are concerned:

On May 24th, I will be putting the Etsy shop in “vacation mode” which means no orders will be shipped out after the 23rd and no merchandise will be visible to the public until the shop is re-opened on July 1st. I know that seems like a long time to be shut down but I am doing so for a few reasons. When the shop re-opens none of the old merchandise (except for the headpieces) will be in the shop, it’s going to have all new items. I am going to be adding a broader range of items… everything from stuff for babies, moms, kids, teenagers, home decor, etc. Because I won’t be really returning home until June 16th, I’m using the two weeks before the re-opening of the shop to revamp the look and add all the new stuff as well as adding a new set of shop policies. Due to the fact that the inventory that’s currently in the Etsy shop (find it HERE) will no longer be offered once the shop is re-opened, everything in the shop is currently on sale for 25% off. Enter that coupon code in at checkout to receive the discount and keep in mind your last chance to order is through May 23rd.

After much consideration, I have decided to keep the blog up while we are away for the 3 weeks… I’ll be posting as usual until June 14th, leaving the site up (without any new posts) until June 19th and then taking it offline for a few days. When it’s back online, I will do a post alerting you all to the fact and you’ll notice the change of not only the look but a new posting schedule as well. I’ve been posting every Monday & Wednesday, with an Instalife post on Fridays and an additional post some Saturdays. To give you more content, I will be posting every Monday, Wednesday & Friday after the relaunch and then moving Instalife to Saturdays. I want to thank you all for your patience in advance for the disruption, it’s a necessary evil and I think it’s going to make things much better in the long run!

1. I have a thing for shoes… and not just heels, I’m talking sneakers, heels, flats, etc. I have gotten so much better in the past few years, mostly because my dad helped me to build wall length shoe racks and when we did that I realized truly how many shoes I had. I have been getting a few new pairs lately to get ready for this spring/summer, the ones are on the faux sheepskin in our room (see it HERE).

2. Last weekend we made skinny blood orange margaritas (get the recipe HERE). We have been hitting the gym hard this year, recently started running and have been eating much healthier but it seems cocktails are our kryptonite so we’ve been trying to lighten them up lately.

3. This past week was an insane one for me, all that was keeping me going was iced lattes… this is my go-to all year long (skinny cinnamon dolce lattes), I have them hot in the fall & winter (with extra foam) and iced in the spring & summer (with an extra shot of espresso).

4. We make our eggplant “pasta” (find the recipe HERE) and it’s so easy that we switch it up each time we make it based on what’s in the house. This time we used canned diced tomatoes with the juice instead of chopped fresh ones, fat free half & half instead of cream, fresh thyme instead of basil and fat free parmesan to lighten it up even more!

Instalife 4:26 21. I mentioned in a previous Instalife post (find it HERE) that I was making new throw pillows for our patio furniture using ikat prints. I dragged my husband along to the fabric store last weekend to pick out the last couple prints and he found this one which I am absolutely in love with!

2. Our farmer’s market FINALLY opens back up this week and when we get back home we always mound all the fruit & veggies that don’t get refrigerated in a big bowl on our kitchen table. We usually use this plain white one from Pottery Barn (find it HERE, it’s the largest one in the coupe set of serving bowls) butI saw this one and couldn’t resist getting it!

3. Weezy and Sebastian were wore out from the weekend, lol. This was them Monday morning.

4. My husband brought me these on his lunch break the day I hit 1,000 followers… he’s so sweet and they looked so nice on our new outdoor table!

Whole Wheat Lemon Thyme Scones

Whole Wheat Lemon Thyme Scones

A few weeks ago, after my husband and I got done making Bolognese sauce (find the recipe HERE), we had a lot of thyme leftover. I said “I wish we had a recipe to use it up like we do rosemary in scones” (find that recipe HERE) and literally two mornings later an email popped into my inbox from a blog I follow with a recipe for lemon and thyme scones. Jill over at Reini Days adapted a recipe to make mini versions of the scones (find her post HERE, and follow her because she always has great recipes!) and I adapted hers to make my own version! I switched up a few things, made them in a food processor, made them full sized and glazed them a little differently… they were so delicious! Sweet and savory and tart…. the lemony herbaceous flavor from the thyme played off the lemon zest and juice so well and using whole wheat flour gave it a great texture. These are really simple to make in the food processor and even though I used one, you don’t even need a scone pan to bake them. These would be perfect to make (especially if you made Jill’s mini ones) for a quick on-the-go breakfast all week long! Click here to get the recipe and see how they’re made!

Instalife 4:19

1. One of my absolute favorite things about spring is heirloom tomatoes. If you’ve never tried them before (I understand they look scary), you really should! They’re pricey but SO much tastier than the hybrid tomatoes that are available all year round.

2. I added my Sex & the City box set to the stack of coffee table books in our living room and was loving the pop of color that was happening. When I was out getting produce I found this mix of spring flowers that I knew would work perfectly in that space, it plays off the pink from the box set and the green from my matchstick bottles (find more info on that HERE).

3. My parent’s came and stayed with us last weekend and the first night they were here we had dinner at the Pearl Street Brewery (find it HERE) downtown. They do these huge table taps of beer, which look like a ton but it equalled about two beers for each of us. This was my dad and my husband at the table.

4. Last Saturday morning my dad and I got up early to design our new outdoor table (see the post on it HERE). He went to school for engineering and works as a project manager at a welding company now so he had all the software which made things SO much easier. This was when we had just gotten started.

Instalife 4:19 2

1. We all chipped in (my dad, my brother, my husband and I) to get my mom gift certificates for the Theater downtown (find it HERE) and she was able to get tickets to a few shows. On Saturday afternoon she took me to see Rock of Ages and we had such a fun time!

2. After the show we picked up my dad and husband and we all went to dinner at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens (find it HERE). We usually only go in December with a huge group because it is decked out to the nines for the holidays but it was just as delicious! I wore my rhinestone encrusted heels that I made (find the DIY HERE). I seriously still wear them all the time (and I always get complimented on them) because you really can dress them up or down. In this case I wore them with skinny jeans, a neon yellow t-shirt and a seersucker blazer.

3. Sunday we worked ALL day on the new outdoor table (see the finished table HERE) and this was as we started dry-laying the herringbone pattern.

4. Sunday night I was way too tired to make dinner so I made mini versions of the Six Layer Hummus Dip (find the recipe HERE) for dinner using the heirloom tomatoes in place of the cherry tomatoes.

Instalife 4:19 31. This was the start of me re-painting our old straw doormat, find all the details and the how-to HERE.

2. It rained most of the week here, which was fine by me as I was SLAMMED with work. I took this picture after the rain had stopped one night as I was doing a coat of polyurethane on the outdoor table, it’s kind of ominous looking but I loved how cool it looked… this was without a filter.

3. Sebastian is seriously the most jealous dog I have ever met lol. See that look he’s giving Weezy while I’m petting her? Cracks me up.

4. I got this email a few days ago from Tiffany’s about the new Great Gatsby collection. I am so obsessed with the 1920′s and the Great Gatsby it’s not even funny. I was so bummed when they pushed the movie release from December to this May but I have already been drooling over the costumes I’ve seen so far in the previews. Aside from the ridiculously priced items (THIS headpiece and THIS bracelet), THIS necklace is my favorite item in the collection (see the whole thing HERE)

1. Last Friday was really busy day for me so it was nice to make something easy for dinner, we pan fried some chicken cutlets with thyme and added it to some carrot risotto… it was delicious!

2. Thankfully, it has really been warming up around here and we brought up the patio furniture this weekend. My dad’s going to help us build a table this coming weekend and so last Saturday I made some new throw pillows to spruce up the cushions outside too!

3. While I was outside working on a DIY, I noticed that the plants are starting to spring back to life!

4. On Saturday night my husband and I cooked a huge dinner… We made brown sugar baked chicken wings with a roasted red pepper dipping sauce, balsamic asparagus with goat cheese and walnuts (see the post on that HERE) and brown sugar baked beans.

Instalife 4:12 2

1. After dinner on Saturday we spent the evening out on our back patio which overlooks the golf course and had our first fire of the year!

2. Sunday morning I made whole wheat lemon thyme scones for breakfast, get the recipe HERE.

3. It was CRAZY windy here on Sunday but still beautiful out so we took our walk to the beach anyways. It was actually quite incredible once we got down there… we stood on the outmost point and the view was breathtaking!

4. I gave new life to one of my DIYs from last year, see the post HERE for more!

instalife 4:12 3

1. When I was younger I spent a lot of time in my summers at Camp Onyahsa (find it HERE) and my favorite part of going for those weeks was making macrame bracelets, seriously. My counselor was the best at them and I made them in every design, color, size, etc that I possibly could. Since DMC now makes fluorescent colored embroidery floss I figured I’d bring them back this spring/summer… this is the first one I started working on.

2. Before we picked Weezy up when she was a puppy, the first toy we every bought for her was this pink puppy which we named Sampson and Weezy LOVED it. She slept with it, carried it around and was always comforted by it. When we got Sebastian (aka toy destroyer) we had to keep Sampson up to save it so now we break it out for special occasions like the vet or when she’s sick. Sometimes I let her in our room with him, like I did yesterday… she lays by the heater under the bed and holds him haha.

3. Sebastian is TERRIFIED of our vacuum… this was him 20 minutes after I was done vacuuming still cowering under my vanity lol.

4. As I mentioned in my spring cleaning post (find it HERE), at the end of each set of seasons we go through our closets and set aside all the clothes that aren’t in style, don’t fit, etc. to donate. We did my husband’s closet a couple weekends ago and I spent the ENTIRE day yesterday doing my two closets. It feels so cathartic to get rid of the old to make room for new and it doesn’t hurt either that 80% of this haul was clothes that are too big since my husband and I have been working hard at the gym this year!

1. In last week’s roundup (find it HERE) I showed you the sketch of a dress I was going to start, this is the finished bodice (minus the armholes) in muslin.

2. Spring really sprung here in New York last weekend. On Saturday it was incredible out, I worked on my dress in the morning while my husband hit some golf balls in the backyard. In the afternoon we took a walk to beach that’s near our house, this pic is from the shores once we got there!

3. There was so much drift wood on the beach and the way the sun was hitting it perfectly was insanely beautiful!

4. When it’s really clear out, like it was last Saturday you can see downtown from the shoreline!

Instalife 4:5 2

1. I finished the dress and HATED the gathering of the skirt at the waistline, it was just WAY too much fabric (see the first pic). I ended up using a hip curve to smooth it out taking a lot of inches off the skirt at the waist, which is the second picture. I ended up drafting my own pattern for a third skirt where I nixed the pockets all together and made it shorter… I’ll keep you posted once I decide on a fabric to make the real thing!

2. Weezy got her bandage off over the weekend and went back to the vet on Tuesday to get her final check-up. She got a clean bill of health and her paws all healed up so she’s a happy camper, this was on the drive home.

3. The dogs are LOVING the sunshine, it was still chilly too chilly here on Wednesday to go outside but they camped out in front of the sliding glass doors all afternoon!

4. I am really getting into a spring mood so I wanted to start adding some springtime flare to the Etsy shop by using some fun floral fabrics in my sewing. I used these to make one of my roll-up bags, you can find it HERE.
Instalife 4:5 31. I am embarrassingly obsessed with Sex & the City. Once the final season aired and they released the complete series box set (find it HERE) I watched it on a loop for years. I knew I needed to give it a break when my husband could recite lines from every single episode lol. I haven’t watched it in a couple of years and I busted it back out to watch while I was sewing the other night.

2. My husband took me out for my favorite frozen yogurt (TCBY) on an impromptu date night Wednesday. It’s kind of my mom & mine’s thing but he’s not so bad company either! They just got a Ruby Red Grapefruit sorbet flavor that’s to die for!

3. I went thrift store shopping yesterday to get some supplies for THIS post and I came across these glasses. They look like stamped metal around the top but they’re actually etched with a silver band around the top… I couldn’t pass them up at just $2 for four of them!

4. I have been doing almost all of my fabric shopping at Mood in NYC lately (find them HERE). Once we went on our trip last October I fell in love with not only the HUGE selection of fabrics but the prices as well… you get amazing quality for a great price. I work a lot with Kyndrell from there and she’s incredible, yesterday I got these swatches in the mail to help me decide on some chartreuse fabrics… I think I’m going to go with the middle one! I can’t wait to start working on some things for spring/summer because I have been getting the most amazing fabrics!

Last Minute Easter Inspiration

easter inspiration

A few weeks before a season starts, I hop online and start gathering inspiration for projects and recipes that I want to try in the upcoming months. Sometimes I get to all of them and have trouble coming up with more, but more often than not I end up not getting to a lot of things on my list. I have been super inspired lately and got a little ambitious with how many new things I wanted to try. I had quite a few “easter related” things that I just didn’t end up having time for but I thought I’d share them with you anyways in case you were lacking inspiration and needed some ideas before tomorrow! I’ll also throw in some really fun decor ideas in case you’re having people over to your home! I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday with their family and friends! Click here to get all the details and get inspired!
